Dissertation 4 May 2017: Daniela Mariosa
On Thursday May 4, Daniela Mariosa will defend her thesis "Metabolic disorders in the etiology of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis : an epidemiological approach". Professor Albert C. Ludolph from the Department of Neurology at the University of Ulm will be her opponent. Supervisors are Fang Fang, Weimin Ye, Freya Kamel and Rino Bellocco.
Daniela's thesis includes studies with different study designs and populations to systematically investigate the relationship between metabolic disorders and ALS risk and, to a lesser extent, progression. The studies will contribute to fill the knowledge gap about the association between metabolic disorders and neurodegeneration in ALS. Furthermore, Paper I and Paper IV serve as excellent examples of the unique possibilities offered by the nationwide health registers in Sweden that can, when equipped with modern analytical methods, contribute to the understanding of complex diseases.
