Reseanslag - Stiftelsen för Internationellt Vetenskapligt Samarbete kring Blodsjukdomar och Transplantation (SIVSBT) 

SIVSBT utlyser reseanslag med inriktning mot blodsjukdomar och transplantation. Kostnader för resa och uppehälle upp till 50.000 kronor kan sökas. Resor för doktorander och nyligen disputerade kliniska forskare vid Karolinska Institutet prioriteras. Resan skall innebära besök vid konferens med egen presentation (poster eller föredrag) eller vistelse i annat laboratorium/klinik utanför Sverige för att lära nytt till gagn för det egna projektet.

Bidrag för planering av klinisk studie inom behandlingsforskning - Vetenskapsrådet

Syftet med bidraget är att skapa möjlighet för en konstellation av forskare inom akademin och hälso- och sjukvården att planera med andra aktörer inför en framtida ansökan om bidrag till klinisk studie inom behandlingsforskning. Medverkande forskare: Minst 3 och upp till 10 andra forskare ska bjudas in att medverka i ansökan. Bidragstid är 1 till 2 år. Bidragsbelopp: 400 000 - 1 200 000 kronor per år.

Travel grants – the Royal Physiographic Society in Lund 

Travel grants for junior researchers are intended for participation in conferences and workshops, for fieldwork and for research collaborations at another institution, preferably outside the Nordic region. Grants are awarded at a standard flat rate depending on the destination of the applicant. Current application is for travel in the period September 1 - November 25, 2024.

Visiting researcher grants – Swedish Research Council for Health, Working Life and Welfare (FORTE) 

Aims to contribute to development and learning and promote knowledge exchange from the international research community to Swedish research within Forte’s focus areas. The grant primarily supports shorter stays for research collaboration, exchange of experience, and learning. Grants are available for both incoming and outgoing visiting researchers. The stay should be a minimum of one month and can be maximum of six months, but the project period can be up to one year. The maximum funding amount that can be applied for is SEK 500 000.

BioInnovation Hypotesprövning Steg 1 2024 – Vinnova 

Stödjer nyskapande, mindre forsknings- och innovationsprojekt som behandlar en radikal och innovativ frågeställning. Medel kan sökas för projekt som syftar till att verifiera, bekräfta eller avfärda nydanande innovativa uppslag för ett mer omfattande projekt. Sökes i första hand av tillverkare, leverantörer och användare av biobaserade material, produkter och tjänster, men även universitet, högskolor, forskningsinstitut och andra relevanta aktörer. Finansieras med högst 500 000 kronor för ett projekt. Projekt ska samfinansieras av medverkande företag med motsvarande summa som det sökta bidraget.

Research proposal preparation - Nordic research consortia for EU calls on antimicrobial resistance (AMR)

Projects funded under this call should form Nordic research consortia that prepare successful proposals to the calls from the EU funded One Health AMR partnership (The Horizon Europe Candidate Partnership: One Health AMR – JPIAMR), and/or from the European Partnership on Animal Health and Welfare Projects (eupahw.eu), and/or other relevant European initiatives on Antibiotic resistance. Proposals to other EU funds and/or other international tenders on One Health AMR will also be highly relevant.

Knowledge Sharing and Capacity Building networks to strengthen Indigenous perspectives in research - NordForsk and Nordic Council of Ministers (NCM) 

NordForsk announces funding for two to four Nordic knowledge-sharing and capacity-building networks for researchers working with research relevant to Indigenous peoples and/or Indigenous research. The overall aim for the call is to in the long term contribute to sustainable and ethically sound development of communities and areas where Indigenous peoples have interests, and thus contribute to maintaining trust and unity in the Nordic region. Networks funded under this call can embrace all relevant themes, subjects, subject areas and disciplines of research. The amount of funding available to Nordic partners in a network is up to NOK 1 million. Funded networks shall have a duration of two years.

Research grants - the Nilsson-Ehle Endowments and the Royal Physiographic Society in Lund

The Nilsson-Ehle Endowments announce support to theoretical and applied research in Genetics. Grants are awarded for the studies of the structure, function and evolution of the genetic material or its practical use. The applicants may be researchers of any level starting from PhD students, but with at least two years of documented research experience in Genetics. Applications from Ph.D. students must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from the supervisor.  Researchers who have completed their Ph.D. can also apply for travel grants from the Nilsson-Ehle Travel Fund.

Njurfonden utdelar bidrag för vetenskaplig forskning om njursjukdomar och njurtransplantation. Projektet ska avse medicinsk och vårdvetenskaplig forskning om njursjukdomar och njurtransplantation. Njurfonden ger inte stöd till forskning kring cancersjukdomar i njurar och urinvägar. Forskningsprojektets betydelse ur njurmedicinsk, alternativt transplantationsrelaterad, synvinkel med särskild hänsyn till klinisk betydelse inom överskådlig tid, samt patientnytta utgör viktiga prioriteringsgrunder. Varje ansökningsomgång avser ett års projekttid, bidrag till samma projekt ges vid högst tre utdelningstillfällen.

NOBEL SYMPOSIA 2026

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences invites Swedish researchers to propose topics for the NOBEL SYMPOSIA 2026 in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature and Economic Sciences.

The NOBEL SYMPOSIA presents an opportunity for Swedish researchers to organise international conferences at the highest scientific level, bringing them in direct contact with the international research frontier. Since the start in 1965, more than 190 NOBEL SYMPOSIA have been held.

The Programme Committee of the Nobel Foundation is the body that formally approves applications to arrange NOBEL SYMPOSIA. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences receives and coordinates the evaluation of proposals for NOBEL SYMPOSIA in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature and Economic Sciences. 

The Academy thus invites the Swedish academic community to propose topics for the NOBEL SYMPOSIA 2026. Through major grants from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation it is now possible to arrange one symposium per year in each of these five fields.

Applications are to be submitted no later than 11 October, 2024.

ERC Advanced Grants 2024 – European Research Council

The ERC Advanced Grants (AdG) 2024 call is now open. An ERC AdG supports an established, leading PI who wants long-term funding to pursue a ground-breaking, ambitious project. Applicants are expected to be active researchers who have a track-record of significant research achievements and are exceptional leaders in terms of originality and significance of their research contributions. 
Applications can be made in any field of research -- the ERC's grants operate on a 'bottom-up' basis without predetermined priorities.

An AdG is worth up to € 2.5 million for a period of 5 years, though an additional € 1 million can be made available.

Lupus research grants -- Lupus UK

Applications should focus on the following:

• Smaller pilot studies, which will lead to applications to major funders for large-scale research trials.

• Enabling grants for basic science support, which would enable larger projects by providing essential data for large grant applications.

• Medical meetings, which would facilitate improvements to the understanding of the causes, prevention and treatment of lupus, and its research.

At present, the cap for individual applications is set at £25,000. However, this is under review and an announcement confirming the cap for this round will be made in late-spring 2024.

International networks of excellence in cardiovascular and neurovascular research -- Leducq Foundation

This supports collaborative basic, translational and clinical research coordinated by centres in North America and Europe in the fields of cardiovascular and neurovascular disease.

Each application must involve coordinators from different continents. Investigators worldwide may participate in the network, if they are affiliated with an academic research centre. A network should have a minimum of three institutional members and a maximum of six. 

Grants are worth up to USD 8 million over five years each.

International grants -- Biocodex Microbiota Foundation

These support clinical or fundamental research projects focused on human gut microbiota related to health and disease. For the current round, the theme is ‘transformation of bile acids by the gut microbiota: Functional implications for the host and consequences for human health’. The project should lead to new mechanistic biological insights that are relevant to human health and disease.
Purely descriptive studies are not in the scope. Either clinical or fundamental research proposals can be submitted. 

The grant is worth €200,000 over one to three years.

BrightFocus, US – Alzheimer's Disease Research Program

Abstract: BrightFocus provides research funds for U.S. domestic as well as international researchers pursuing pioneering research leading to greater understanding, prevention, and treatment of Alzheimer's disease. BrightFocus is committed to supporting scientists from diverse backgrounds to foster creativity and innovation in addressing complex scientific challenges. We strongly encourage applications from individuals who are from groups underrepresented in the field of Alzheimer’s disease research. The ADR program offers two types of awards:

Standard Awards: The standard award provides significant funding for researchers who have already generated some amount of preliminary data, but are often required to demonstrate additional, significant progress before they can apply to governmental or industrial funding agencies. March of Dimes Foundation, US – Discovery Research Grants 

Upcoming deadlines: Full application – 6th September, 2024

Amount: $200,000. The grants are $200,000 over two years inclusive of 10% indirect costs.

Eligibility: March of Dimes invites submissions from: Health professionals, health researchers, epidemiologists, and social scientists with doctoral academic degrees and either a faculty appointment or equivalent at academic universities, hospitals, and research institutions. Applicants may not hold any other current March of Dimes grants when applying.

Abstract: Discovery Grants are for established scientists with a long history of published work in the maternal fetal health and related fields. Simply put, Discovery Grants are funding vehicles for research inquiries that are as practical as they are ambitious, as attainable as they are groundbreaking, and as transformative as they are necessary. These grants are given to researchers with inquiries that have the power to drastically reshape outcomes for families across the US and strike a decisive blow against the maternal and infant health crisis. The proposed research should focus on one of these priority topic areas: Spontaneous preterm birth; Racial inequities as they relate to morbidity, mortality, and access to care; or Cardiovascular health conditions developed during pregnancy or exacerbated during pregnancy.

Myotonic Dystrophy Foundation (MDF), US – Early Career Research Grant 

Upcoming deadlines: Full application – 13th September, 2024

Amount: $190,000. $95,000 per year for two years. Indirect costs are not covered by this grant.

Eligibility: The submitting principal investigator must hold a Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Science, or equivalent degree. The terminal degree must have been received no more than ten years prior to the time of the award*. If you have completed both residency and a Ph.D., your eligibility is based on when you completed residency, and you must have completed your residency no more than ten years prior to the time of the award*. If you completed a fellowship of any kind after residency, your eligibility is still based on the date you finished residency. *Exceptions to the ten-year limit include any periods of family or medical leave.

Abstract: Through this Request for Applications (RFA), the Myotonic Dystrophy Foundation (MDF) recognizes a need to retain early career scholars in the field of myotonic dystrophy (DM). MDF intends to issue up to two two-year awards for projects that focus on basic, translational, and/or clinical research or care projects in myotonic dystrophy. By funding projects on basic, translational, and/or clinical research or care in myotonic dystrophy, the MDF seeks to retain early-career scholars who are passionate about researching in the DM field.
