Continued advanced position for KI in this year's Shanghai ranking
KI is ranked 41 in the 2022 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), also known as the Shanghai ranking. This means that Karolinska Institutet (KI) retains its position as one of the world's 50 highest-ranked universities, where the ranking has varied between positions 38 and 45 over the past five years (2021: position 42). KI is also one of Europe's and the EU's highest-ranked universities. ARWU is based, among other things, on publication- and citation data and scientific awards.
Consistently in first and second position in the ARWU are Harvard University and Stanford University, respectively, while this year the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is in third position and the University of Cambridge in fourth. Among the world's 100 leading universities according to ARWU are seven Nordic universities. Among them, KI is ranked number two in position 41, after the University of Copenhagen in Denmark in 39, while the University of Oslo in Norway is found at positition 67.
Earlier this year (July), ARWU published its subject-tables where KI has several advanced positions in the world (within the EU marked in brackets), including 8 position in the world in Public Health (1 position in the EU), 4 (1) in Nursing, 14 (3) in Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences and position 31 (4) in Clinical Medicine.
