Consultant Inger Hagerman receives the first medical stipend from the Håkan Mogren Foundation

The Håkan Mogren Foundation has selected researcher and consultant Inger Hagerman to be the 2013 recipient of its medical stipend. The 250,000 kronor prize is to be awarded to Dr Hagerman for her exceptional contributions to human wellbeing.

The Håkan Mogren Foundation was set up in 2012 to promote education and research in medicine and the training of classical musicians, particularly singers.

This is the foundation's first stipend in the medical field. The purpose of the stipend is to enable well-qualified, scientifically adept and clinically active doctors to improve their skills or conduct research in a field of interest to them. To be considered for the stipend, recipients must have earned renown as practitioners who take care of their patients with empathy and passion, and should be taking - or planning to take - active steps to spread their knowledge through lectures or supervision.

"Dr Hagerman does exemplary, science-based clinical work, especially for heart transplant patients. She is a role-model for her colleagues and has a great deal of knowledge to pass on," says Håkan Mogren on the choice of prizewinner.

Consultant Dr Inger Hagerman works at the cardiology clinic at Karolinska University Hospital in Huddinge and researches on heart failure and heart transplantation at Karolinska Institutet's Department of Medicine.

The stipend, which comprises a diploma and a personal prize of SEK 250,000, will be awarded during Karolinska Institutet's installation ceremony on 24 October this year.
