"Large-scale neuronal dynamics and connectivity in visual cognition"

Speaker

Dr. Satu Palva, University of Helsinki, Finland

Abstract

Latest advances in using magneto- and electroencephalography (M/EEG), and invasive intracranial EEG (iEEG) recordings have highlighted the presence and significance of large-scale brain-wide networks in rest and cognitive functions.  In M/EEG and iEEG, functional connectomes can be estimated from source constructed MEG data using data-driven approaches. In this talk, I will give an overview for the results, where we have shown that large-scale network synchronization is robust across a wide-range of frequencies and predictive of individual performance in working memory, attention and perceptual tasks. I will specifically discuss how synchronization across oscillatory frequencies could provide a novel mechanism for cognitive integration by integrating the information across spectrally distributed oscillatory assemblies.
