Other Workshop: Recent Developments in Transcultural Suicidology

Never before in modern history have so many people been forcefully displaced within their home country or in exile. The conditions of refugees in host countries are insecure and they have an increased risk of mental ill-health. Migrants, however, often have difficulties getting access to care and when they do seek care, they often receive different treatment than native-born patients.

A new network

Against this background an international network on transcultural suicidology was launched in 2023 by researchers from Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. We need to join forces to study social and cultural factors influencing health and help seeking in diverse societies. We need to find and evaluate appropriate public health interventions. 

The network is open to researchers, clinicians and others who work with transcultural issues and suicide prevention, as well as communities with concerns in this area and users of mental health services. It is transdisciplinary and open for different professions.

Participate at the 2nd international workshop of the network

On October 31 between 2 and 5 pm (CET) we will organise our 2nd workshop on the topic. It will be hybrid, on Karolinska Institutet premises in Stockholm as well as online.

The aim of the workshop is to summarise new developments in transcultural suicidology and to move forward, discussing potential common activities for the future. Participants will be encouraged to bring their own most burning questions and concerns in the field of transcultural suicidology and engage in a discussion on joint projects.

The workshop will be held in English.
