Are you curious about how conflicts of interest (COI) shape the way research is funded, conducted, published, and then translated into policy? Do you want to learn how to detect and manage these conflicts in your own academic work and institutional environment? Join us for the interactive and in-person workshop organized by the the Doctoral Programme in Biology of Infections and Global Health (BIGH).
The workshop will explore:
- How conflicts of interest arise and influence research and policy
- Commercial determinants of health and their impact on academia and health
- Real-world and practical case studies with interactive group exercises
During this event you will:
- Learn to recognize the different forms of COI (e.g., financial, institutional, “astroturfing”)
- Gain insights into how industries and persons shape research, academia, and health policy
- Strengthen your ability to protect the integrity and independence of your research
- Meet peers and discuss the intersection of science, ethics, and policy
The program is as follows:
- 9:00-9:10 - Welcome and introduction
- 9:10-11:00 - Conflict of interest, types and management
- 11:00-12:00 - Commercial determinants of health
