Welcome to NASP Journal Club!

The National Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention (NASP) at Karolinska Institutet hereby invites everyone interested to the seminar “Psychotherapy and secondary prevention of suicide”. The presenter is Göran Högberg; M.D., PhD, specialist in general medical practice, specialist in child- and adolescent psychiatry, psychotherapist and private practitioner (retired but formerly affiliated to the department of women’s and children’s health at Karolinska Institutet).

Description: A group of young people with suicidal behavior and ideation with a history of care in the medical/psychiatric/social system carry a risk of completed suicides later in life. Secondary prevention means that these individuals might have been helped by a better understanding and a more efficient psychotherapeutic treatment. This seminar will present trajectories for the subgroups of this risk-population, as well as reflections on the suicidal ideation and the transition from ideation to completed suicide. Special focus will be on psychotherapeutic approaches based on fear/resolution assisted by memory reconsolidation and improved mood-regulation. In this context the method of MR-CBT will be presented (mood regulation focused cognitive behavioral therapy).

The seminar will take place Tuesday 22nd of October between 13:00-15:00 pm in NASP’s library (Granits väg 4, KI Campus Solna). Note that the seminar length is 120 minutes instead of the usual 90 minutes. It will consist of a presentation (approximately 90 minutes), with some time reserved for questions and discussions (approximately 30 minutes). The seminar will be held in English.
