Lectures and seminars Webinar: Loneliness among older adults – research and implications for practice in the Nordic region
Welcome to a webinar co-organised by the Nordic Welfare Centre, Dalarna University and Karolinska Institutet, where new research on loneliness among older adults in the Nordic region will be presented. This webinar will be of value to decision-makers, care practitioners, civil society, researchers and everybody with an interest in the living conditions of older adults.
About the seminar
Loneliness is widely discussed within policy, practice and media. It is a public health issue internationally due to having negative consequences for physical and mental health. Older adults have been identified as being at risk of loneliness, so it is crucial to understand loneliness in this age group and how it can be reduced.
Welcome to a webinar where new research on loneliness among older adults in the Nordic region will be presented. The topics to be explored include the links between loneliness and mental health, how older adults describe their experiences of loneliness, and how to design interventions and actions to reduce loneliness. The lower levels of loneliness in Nordic countries compared to other parts of Europe will be examined from a societal perspective, while loneliness among older adults will be considered from a life-course perspective. To highlight how this research can contribute to the lives and well-being of older adults, representatives of a civil society organisation and a local authority will identify take-home messages from the conference.
