Other The Lancet Global Health: Global Launch of Commission on Medical Oxygen Security
Welcome to The Lancet Global Health's official global launch of the commission on medical Oxygen security to which KI researchers have contributed.
The COVID-19 pandemic shone a light on the longstanding issues with gaps in access to medical oxygen. Since the pandemic, large investments have been made into medical oxygen systems, but the lack of safe, quality, and affordable oxygen continues to contribute to hundreds of thousands of preventable deaths each year.
Reducing global inequities in medical oxygen access: the Lancet Global Health Commission on medical oxygen security, provides the world’s first estimates of the large scale and geographic concentration of medical oxygen coverage gaps and the cost of closing the gaps. It contains specific recommendations for how governments, industry, global health agencies, academic institutions, and civil society can work together to strengthen health systems to guarantee medical oxygen access for all.
The Commission Launch the 18 February will present these key findings, with presentations from members of the Commission – including A/Prof Carina King, from the Department of Global Public Health, Karolinska Institutet, and stories from patients who experienced firsthand the struggle to access medical oxygen.
