Welcome to the seminar "The Ebola outbreak in DR Congo - Challenges and opportunities to end the outbreak", with a presentation by Dr Michel Yao, Emergency Operations Manager for WHO Ebola response in DR Congo, organised by the Centre for Research on Health Care in Disasters together with the Public Health Agency of Sweden (Folkhälsomyndigheten).

About the seminar: The ongoing Ebola outbreak in DR Congo has infected more than 3 000 and 2 000 has died. It was recently classified by WHO as a public health emergency of international concern. The disease spreads in an extremely difficult context defined by poverty, conflict, lack of resources and public trust. Despite significant efforts and new tools such as vaccines and promising treatments, the outbreak is spreading to new areas of the country.

What are the challenges to stop the epidemic and how useful are the new tools? Dr Michel Yao will present WHO's perspective directly from the field. Anna Sjöblom from Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) will comment. Anneli Eriksson from Karolinska Institutet will moderate.
