Welcome to a symposium on the topic "Discovery of Bioactive Peptides: The Legacy of Viktor Mutt", to be held at Nobel Forum, Campus Solna, on 26-27 September 2024. The symposium should be of interest to basic and clinical scientists in the fields of endocrinology, neurobiology, neurology and psychiatry.
The late professor Viktor Mutt was an eminent biochemist working at Karolinska Institutet. He pioneered work with bioactive peptides that exibit important functions as neurotransmitters and hormones. Examples are cholecystokinin, vasoactive intestinal peptide, neuropeptide Y and galanin and more, as well as several antimicrobial peptides such as the cathelicidins, which are involved in defense mechanisms.
During the symposium lectures also deal with the origin of neuropeptide signaling, molecular sensors for peptide release, GLP-1 agonists, and there is a special lecture by the Nobel Laureate Svante Pääbo.
Registration
Fully subscribed. It is no longer possible to register for the symposium.
Organising committee
Birgitta Agerberth, Tamas Bartfai, Peter Bergman, Christian Broberger, Tomas Hökfelt and Hans Jörnvall
The event is a collaboration between Karolinska Institutet, The Journal of Internal Medicine (JIM) and the Nobel Assembly.
