Lectures and seminars ”Stem-cell-a-thon” seminar #2 "Intestinal stem cell, cancer and bioengineering"

16-03-2023 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm Add to iCal
Campus Flemingsberg

Speaker: Vivian Li, The Francis Crick Institute, London

Vivian Li's specialization: Vivian’s group is fascinated in finding how the stem cells in the gut lining are controlled in healthy gut and what happens when they go wrong, leading to bowel cancer. They are particularly interested in Wnt signaling in this set-up and its role in maintaining homeostasis or its contribution towards development of cancer. They use a model of bowel stem cells growing in the lab, in small three-dimensional clumps called organoids (also known as ‘mini-guts’). Furthermore, they employ gene editing techniques to alter the levels of Wnt and other important signalling molecules to unravel the underlying mechanisms.
