About the workshop

Usage of artificial intelligence (AI) in medical and epidemiological research has increased over the years. However, there are concerns about the reproducibility of the findings from AI-driven research. Similar to standard practice of ethical research, proper data management assists in ensuring sound conduct of research and increasing the likelihood of reproducibility of the findings.

In a two-day workshop for PhD students at Karolinska Institutet organized on May 5-6, the topic of data management will be discussed, particularly focusing on AI-based epidemiological research, and how ideal practices span to include pragmatic yet comprehensive instructions to ensure the necessary steps of data management are undertaken in AI-focused epidemiological field. The workshop will also address career opportunities for PhD students in academia, private sector, government, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The workshop will be under the umbrella of active learning and teambuilding, as this opportunity serves as an excellent networking occasion for potential strong bridges among current colleagues and future collaborators.

The workshop is planned at Yasuragi, and has limited seats. The workshop is open to PhD students who have not defended their PhD prior to the workshop and will take into account the motivation letter in the selection process. Priority will be given to students who have attended the “Good Data Management Practice in Epidemiological Research” or a similar course in data management in epidemiological research, but 20% of the seats are reserved to students who did not take this course and open to all students at KI, particularly those who have an interest in this area of research (i.e., epidemiology or AI-based epidemiological research).

This workshop is sponsored by SFOepi and the Doctoral Students’ Association (DSA).
