About the speaker
Alice is a renal dietitian from Italy and board member of the European Renal Nutrition working group and coordinator of the Module Nutrition in renal disease of the ESPEN Lifelong learning program of continuous education. Currently, she is concluding her post-doc at Karolinska Institutet, CLINTEC. Her research interests are body composition evaluation in CKD, muscle function, low protein diet and the role of ultra-processed foods and additives in CKD complications.
Seminar description
In this seminar, titled Sarcopenic obesity in CKD: beyond BMI and muscle mass, Alice will discuss the obesity paradox in patients with advanced CKD on dialysis by highlighting the importance of body composition evaluation and the risks associated with sarcopenic obesity. She will also touch upon another muscle abnormality that can have negative consequences for muscle function and other hard outcomes, named myosteatosis.
