Why are LGBTQ people at inceased risk of mental health problems?

Richard is studying  how social, psychological and contextual factors influence the health of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) individuals. In his research, he uses both social epidemiological, psychological, and socioecological models to understand the influence of stigma and discrimination on physical and mental health disparities based on sexual orientation.

The seminar will revolve arround the following topics: 

  • What does research say about the mental health of LGBT individuals?
  • Why do LGBT individuals experience poorer mental health?
  • What can be done to improve mental health among LGBT individuals?
  • Does the mental health situation for LGBT people differ across Europe?
