The West Lab focuses on the multifaceted role of mitochondria in cellular processes, particularly in innate immunity, inflammation, and their impact on human health and disease. Their research aims to understand the signaling pathways connecting mitochondria to innate immunity and how these pathways contribute to inflammatory conditions in primary mitochondrial diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and neurological disorders. Additionally, the lab investigates the influence of mitochondrial dysfunction and mitochondrial DNA instability on the development and progression of melanoma, with a focus on how these factors reshape the immune responses within the melanoma micro-environment to potentially impact anti-tumor immunity.
