Lectures and seminars MEB seminar: Professor Biju Viswanath
Title: Discovering the biology of neuropsychiatric illness in India
Speaker
Professor Biju Viswanath
Abstract
The greatest impacts on global public health stem from research generalizable to developing countries and under-represented communities, which represent 85% of the world’s population. This is especially true for research in the area of psychiatric genetics and biological psychiatry.
At the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences in Bangalore, India, we have attempted to develop a genetics/ stem cell repository and a unified clinical database for neuropsychiatric illnesses over the past many years. I will provide an overview of these efforts and discuss potential avenues of collaboration.
