Welcome to a MEB lunch seminar with Professor Erik Melander who will give a talk titled: ”War and Peace in the World – Patterns and Prospects”.

Professor Erik Melander  will give a lecture at MEB and have a Q&A session in Ljusgården.

Title: War and Peace in the World – Patterns and Prospects

The lecture will start with a short introduction, followed by about 40 min talk and then another 15 min of questions for the lecturer. 

Erik Melander has experience from numerous war zones and holds the position of professor at Uppsala University's Department of Peace and Conflict Research and serves as the Director of the Alva Myrdal Centre for Nuclear Disarmament. Previously, he directed the Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP) and held visiting positions at Chulalongkorn University in Thailand, the Joan B. Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at Notre Dame University in the USA, and the University of Natal in South Africa. His research encompasses the causes and dynamics of armed conflict, often with a gender perspective. Erik has conducted research fieldwork in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Kenya, Russia, Serbia, South Africa, and Thailand. In 1996, he served as a second lieutenant with the Swedish peacekeeping forces in Bosnia-Hercegovina.
