Cartilage damage in arthritis: causes, consequences and therapeutic implications

Prof. Thomas Pap, from University Hospital Münster, will give an invited seminar entitled "Cartilage damage in arthritis: causes, consequences and therapeutic implications" at Karolinska Institute, on Thursday, 15th of June, 15:15 CET.

Prof. Pap is now the director of Institute for Musculoskeletal Medicine (IMM), Center for Musculoskeletal Medicine, University of Münster. His research is mainly focused on synovial fibroblast biology and cartilage damage in both rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.

Thomas obtained his MD degree at the University of Magdeburg and went to University Hospital Zurich for postdoctoral fellowship. Thereafter, he became the head of an Emmy Noether Group (DFG) at the University of Magdeburg. In 2005, he was appointed as full professor of experimental medicine and the head of the Department of Molecular Medicine of the Musculoskeletal System, University of Münster. From 2009, he is also the executive director of the Institute for Musculoskeletal Medicine (IMM) to which his department belongs.
