Host-microbial interactions in the generation of citrullinated neoantigens in rheumatoid arthritis

Assoc. Prof. Felipe Andrade, from Johns Hopkins University, will give an invited talk entitled "Host-microbial interactions in the generation of citrullinated neoantigens in rheumatoid arthritis" at Karolinska Institute.

Dr. Andrade’s research is focused on mechanisms of systemic autoimmune diseases, particularly as these relate to the role of cytotoxic granule proteases in autoimmunity and viral clearance, mechanisms of autoantigen citrullination and pathways that control immune effector functions in autoimmune diseases.

Dr. Andrade’s laboratory currently focuses on 2 principal areas: (i) Defining the mechanisms that generate citrullinated autoantigens in vivo in rheumatoid arthritis; and (ii) understanding the pathways that control the activity of the peptidylarginine deiminase (PAD) enzymes in human neutrophils.
