Thursday July 18th and Friday July 19th, doctoral students at the MRC Laboratory for Molecular Biology and Karolinska Institutet will organize a joint symposium. The MRC LMB is a world-class research institute, focusing on Cell Biology, Neurobiology, Protein and Nucleic Acid Chemistry, and Structural Biology. The institute played a pivotal role in the development of modern molecular biology, and research from the MRC LMB has been recognized in twelve Nobel Prizes. Techniques pioneered by the MRC LMB include DNA sequencing and the development of humanized monoclonal antibodies. This symposium will be an event spread out over two full days, hosted at the MRC LMB.

This symposium will be an event spread out over two full days, hosted at the MRC LMB in Cambridge (UK). There will be excellent speakers from topics such as structural biology, neuroscience, molecular biology and cell biology. In addition, there will be short talks by students, poster sessions and three workshops (on the structures of science, AI in research and collaborations between academia and industry). In addition, you will have the chance to network with our invited company speakers through the 2-day conference.

Speakers

The following speakers will present their research during the symposium:

  • Alexander Stark - Transcriptional regulation
  • Alison Barker – Social systems and circuits
  • Judy Hirst – Mitochondrial structural biology
  • Juliette Fedry – Cellular proteostasis networks in health and disease
  • Kirsty Spalding – Fat cell biology
  • Michaell Hausser – Neural computation
  • Scott Waddell – Memory and learning
  • Thomas Lecuit – Cell and tissue morphogenesis
  • Tiago Costa – Structures and functions of bacterial molecular machines
  • Wendy Bickmore – Spatial organization of the nucleus and its importance for genome function
