Intermittent fasting by the 5:2 diet is feasible and improves risk factors for cardio-vascular disease in type 2 diabetes and overweight/obese subjects without diabetes.
Seminar description
Adherence to weight reducing interventions is often poor. In recent years intermittent fasting, a diet alternating between a period of fasting and non-fasting has gained public popularity.
In this session Anton Hellberg will present results from a study evaluating the feasibility and effects of the 5:2 diet on weight, metabolic and hormonal risk factors for cardio-vascular disease and glycaemic control in overweight subjects with and without type 2 diabetes.
About the speaker
Anton Hellberg is a PhD-student at the Department of Women’s and Children’s health at Karolinska Institutet and also a medical intern at Karolinska University Hospital. His PhD project focuses on different lifestyle interventions achieving weight loss on different overweight populations. The populations being studied are individuals with and without type 2 diabetes and women with polycystic ovarian syndrome.
