Welcome to the first Life Science Bar at The Cell, where we dive into the topic of birth. In an inspiring evening, science and art come together to explore the issue of home birth versus hospital birth. With a unique blend of visuals and expert panels, you'll have the chance to explore one of life's most crucial moments.

Please note that this event is held in Swedish!

In an age where hospital birth is considered the safest route for both mother and baby, there is a growing interest in giving birth at home - a yearning for a more personalized and self-directed birth. Imagine you are facing one of the biggest events of your life - the most amazing, but perhaps also the most painful and risky you will ever face. You have access to the best healthcare in the world that women in other parts of the world can only dream of. But are you ready to give up the right to decide on this important moment?

Welcome to a panel discussion on home birth, science, self-determination and social costs.

The evening begins with a visual presentation by photographer Emilia Bergmark-Jiménez, who has documented births around Sweden through her new book Födas och att föda (2024). Her images give us a raw and authentic insight into the most intimate moment in life.

The conversation will be led by Ninos Chamoun, well-known from Swedish Radio's “Kropp & Själ”. With his keen journalistic eye, he moderates a panel consisting of Helena Lindgren, researcher and professor of reproductive health, Maja Larsson, author of the book Kläda blodig skjorta - svenskt barnafödande under 150 år, and Christina Lundberg, midwife with three decades of experience. Together they will discuss the opportunities and risks of home birth, from the scientific facts to the emotional and cultural aspects.

Don't miss this unique opportunity to participate in one of the most exciting debates of the fall - an evening where art and science meet to challenge and inspire.
