Lectures and seminars KI Lifestyle4Health network seminar #2: Health promotion and disease prevention - an overview, speaker Liselotte Schäfer Elinder

This overview lecture is part of KI’s medical program and it is facilitated during the last semester in the course Health, environment and society. It covers risk and protective factors from the individual to societal level with some examples, the potential for prevention, WHO goals to prevent NCDs, evidence-based interventions and policies, examples of market failures and the need for policy, the cost of prevention, and prevention action for health care recommended by the Swedish Board of Health and Welfare.

About the lecturer

Liselotte Schäfer Elinder is an adjunct professor in Public Health Sciences at the Department of Global Public Health and leader of the research group Community nutrition and physical activity. She also works at the Centre for Epidemiology and Community Medicine, Region Stockholm focusing on health promotion and disease prevention.

Liselotte’s research has three main focus areas:

• Epidemiological studies of dietary habits and physical activity and their upstream determinants in relation to health outcomes
• Multidisciplinary research on the development, implementation and evaluation of interventions and tools to promote health and prevent obesity and chronic diseases
• Commissioned assignments within her group’s research competence
