Title: Better sleep in psychiatric care – developing, evaluating and disseminating psychological treatment for sleep problems in psychiatric patients
Insomnia and insomnia-like sleep problems are present in a majority of patients with psychiatric disorders. CBT-I is recommended as first line intervention for insomnia and is effective for patients with psychiatric conditions. However, most of the studies on CBT-I in patients with psychiatric diagnoses are small and conducted in specialist research settings. Furthermore, implementation of CBT-I in routine care is slow and a vast majority of patients suffering from insomnia are not offered treatment. Therefore, more knowledge about barriers and facilitators in implementing are needed. This PhD-project aims evaluate feasibility and effectiveness of CBT-I in a mixed group of psychiatric patients, in a regular psychiatric out-patient clinic. The aim is further to explore factors that facilitate and hinder implementation of CBT-I in psychiatric care in Stockholm and to summarizes the current knowledge on treatment with CBT-I on patients in regular psychiatric care.
