Lectures and seminars Guest seminar - Professor Shoji Takeuchi, University of Tokyo
Title: Biohybrid Innovation in Sensing, Food, and Robotics.
Welcome to guest seminar by Professor Shoji Takeuchi , Institute of Industrial Science, The University of Tokyo
Date: September 5th
Time: 10am
Place: D1012, Biomedicum
Abstract
As manufacturing technologies evolve, we witness the emergence of novel devices and systems. However, replicating biological functions
such as molecular recognition, substance production, and self-organization in artificial settings remains challenging. This talk will delve into the concept of leveraging biological materials,
including molecules and cells, to address these limitations. By combining the unique capabilities and structures of both biological and mechanical systems, we can create innovative bio-hybrid devices.
We will explore the potential of these biohybrid creations, with a particular focus on engineered muscle and skin tissues developed through tissue engineering techniques. These biohybrid systems have promising applications in various fields, including environmental sensing, pharmaceutical testing, cultured meat, and robots enhanced with biological functions. By integrating the strengths of biology and technology, we can develop new solutions that are not only efficient but also sustainable. The talk will provide insights into the latest advancements and future possibilities in this exciting interdisciplinary field.
