Lectures and seminars Fysiologföreningen presents: Professor Takashi Yoshimura
Molecular Mechanisms of Seasonally Regulated Reproduction and Depression-like Behavior.

Abstract
The appropriate timing of various seasonal processes, such as reproduction, migration and hibernation, is crucial to the survival of animals living in temperate regions. Although this phenomenon attracts great interest, its underlying mechanisms are not well understood.
By using non-model organisms that have highly sophisticated seasonal responses, Dr. Yoshimura and colleagues have uncovered the underlying mechanism of seasonal reproduction in birds and mammals. Seasonal changes in environment lead to depression-like behaviors in animals as well as humans.
Dr. Yoshimura will talk about his recent progress in understanding the molecular basis of seasonally regulated behaviors using medaka fish.
This presentation is made possible through the generous support from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).
