Lectures and seminars CTMR Bug Corner: Arisa Kitagishi and Nelly Mäkinen - "The Role of Gut Microbiota and Serum Metabolites in the Development of Post-Traumatic Epilepsy: Investigating the Cross-Talk Between Traumatic Brain Injury and the Gut Microbiota"
Arisa Kitagishi and Nelly Mäkinen are Master's students from Uppsala University who are both completing their Master’s thesis at CTMR.
They work on the same project, but from two different perspectives. Arisa peers over the project from the metagenomic standpoint. Her thesis aims to reveal possible gut microbial predictors of Post-Traumatic Epilepsy using machine learning algorithms and bioinformatic analysis. Nelly focuses on investigating whether there are correlations to be found between said gut microbes and serum metabolites that are associated with the development of Post-Traumatic Epilepsy by implementing omics data integration tools.
