Welcome to the third lunchtime webinar in our series Climate Health Talks. This time we will be discussing the impacts of climate change on the hydrologic cycle, with a focus on extreme events such as storms, floods, and droughts, and their implications for waterborne diseases. In particular, we will look at the challenges these pose to public health in Sweden and explore key adaptation strategies.
Programme:
- Presentation by Georgia Destouni from Stockholm university on the impact of climate change on Sweden's hydrologic cycle, focusing on extreme weather events such as floods, droughts, and storms
- Presentation by Jan Carlo Semenza from Umeå university on the health effects of climate-sensitive waterborne diseases, along with adaptation strategies to mitigate these risks.
- Questions and discussion
The talk will be moderated by Hedvig Glans, PhD, specialist physician in infectious diseases, expert coordinator outbreak preparedness and response at the Centre for Health Crises at KI
