Title
Immortal Time Bias in Observational Studies: The Case Example of Drug Safety During Pregnancy
Abstract
Summary: Observational studies are essential when randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are not feasible, for example due to ethical reasons. However, they are prone to biases such as immortal time bias. This bias arises when individuals in the treatment group appear to have a survival advantage because they must survive a certain period before starting the treatment to be included. Using pregnancy drug safety studies as a case example, this seminar will explore various analytical approaches to understand and assess the impact of immortal time bias in such research.
