The seminar has been cancelled.

"Mechanisms to medicines in neurodegeneration"

This month we will be collaborating with StratNeuro, who will host Giovanna Mallucci for their lunch seminar series, at noon in BioClinicum. Later in the afternoon, we will have an informal Q&A session aimed at PhD students, to be held in room B0313 in Biomedicum, at 15:30.

Speaker

Giovanna Mallucci, Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and PI at the Altos Labs Cambridge Institute of Science (UK)

Dr. Giovanna Mallucci is currently a Principal Investigator at the Altos Labs Cambridge Institute of Science. Previously, she served as the Van Geest Professor of Clinical Neurosciences and Center Director of the UK Dementia Research Institute at the University of Cambridge. Dr. Mallucci is also a practicing neurologist specializing in dementia and is recognized as a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences. In 2021, she was honored with the Potamkin Prize for Research in Pick's, Alzheimer's, and Related Disorders.

Dr. Mallucci's research focuses on modeling prion diseases in mice and understanding and treating neurodegenerative diseases, particularly through exploring the Unfolded Protein Response (UPR) and PERK-eIF2alfa mediated translational regulation. Her work has led to the discovery of repurposable drugs now in clinical trials and the identification of 'hibernation' proteins involved in synapse regeneration with therapeutic potential.
