Speakers: Professor Steven Hyman and professor Matthew B. Johnson

Professor Steven Hyman

 “A decade’s journey from psychiatric genetics to mechanisms and biomarkers —and the hard problems that remain” Steven E. Hyman, MD is the Director of the Broad Program in Brain Health. He is Harvard University Distinguished Service Professor and Harald McPike Professor of Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology. Professor Hyman has also previously served as Provost of Harvard University and as the Director of the US National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH).

Professor Matthew Johnson 

“Synaptic Pruning, Microglia, and Candidate Fluid Biomarkers for Psychiatry” Matthew B. Johnson is a developmental neurobiologist and a group leader in the Stanley Center for Psychiatric Reserach of the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. His team investigates the interactions between neurodevelopmental critical periods, neuroimmune signaling pathways, and genetic and environmental risk factors for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Johnson obtained his Ph.D. in neurobiology from Yale University working in the lab of Nenad Sestan.
