Welcome to Bites of Learning! A webinar series that aims to promote dialogue, exchange of ideas and inspiration around teaching methods and educational development. In this session we will discuss how AI can help us create more inclusive learning environment. Together with guest speaker Joëlle Golmann we explore how ChatGPT can be used in higher education to better support students with ADHD, focusing on both opportunities and risks.

Based on preliminary insights from ongoing research at Karolinska Institutet on the academic journey of medical students with ADHD, the workshop highlights how many of these students already use ChatGPT extensively and view it as an important learning resource, while also reporting that they gain little from traditional lectures. A few illustrative examples will be shared to set the stage. 

University teachers, supervisors, and educational developers are invited to brainstorm concrete ideas for integrating AI into teaching in ways that are supportive, inclusive, and mindful of potential risks. 

The session is facilitated by Joëlle Golmann, PhD student in medical education at KI SÖS and part of the clinical education research group at Södersjukhuset. The project is supported by KI’s pedagogical funding and directly connects to KI’s Strategy 2030, which emphasizes research-informed education, world-class educational support, and equal conditions that foster creativity, diversity, and inclusion. 

Joëlle Golmann

Joëlle Golmann is a PhD student in medical education at Karolinska Institutet (KI SÖS) and part of the clinical education research group at Södersjukhuset. Her research explores the academic journey of medical students with ADHD across all seven medical schools in Sweden, with the aim of informing more inclusive and sustainable practices in medical education. Beyond medical education, her work contributes to ongoing discussions on how universities can better support neurodivergent students, as well as to broader conversations on equity, belonging, and pedagogical innovation in higher education.
