Can we, by shifting our focus from enforcement to understanding, we can help students discover the intrinsic value of their own intellectual journey? This isn't just about following rules – it's about fostering a learning environment where personal integrity becomes a natural response to technological change.
In this session, we'll explore how educators can help cultivate these deeper values while acknowledging the realities of AI tools in education. We'll look at how personal experiences, cultural perspectives, and individual growth can strengthen academic integrity more effectively than external controls alone. Karabo Maiyane, lecturer and acting head of the Department of Philosophy at Nelson Mandela University. His teaching expertise includes moral and political philosophy as well as the history of philosophy. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Pretoria, specialising in the ethics of Artificial intelligence.
