Annika Östman Wernerson is proposed to become the new President of KI

KI's university board proposes that the government appoints Annika Östman Wernerson as president of KI from March 1, 2023.

The decision was made by the University Board on Friday, September 30. The government appoints the Karolinska Institute's President after the University Board has submitted its proposal for a candidate.

Annika Östman Wernerson is a professor of kidney and transplant science and senior physician in clinical pathology. She started as a teacher at KI in the mid-1980s and since 2019 is Academic Vice President for Higher Education at KI.

KI's current President Ole Petter Ottersen's appointment extends to February 28, 2023, when his roughly five-year term of office ends.
