Academic Coordinator for Karolinska Institutet's collaborations with Hong Kong

Are you interested in contributing to Karolinska Institutet's (KI) collaborations with Hong Kong?

Internationalisation is of strategic, operational and financial importance for KI's research and education, and its importance is constantly growing. To strengthen our relationships with partners in Hong Kong, the International Board is seeking an Academic Coordinator. 

KI's cooperation with Hong Kong includes both research collaborations and student exchanges. Research includes collaboration with universities and research and innovation hubs, which connect global research collaborations.

It is important to note that KI-wide collaborations evolve over time, and which universities/organisations are prioritised may change. 

Your role

The role of Academic Coordinator is linked to KI-wide international collaborations, which often include several different activities in higher education, research and innovation.

The purpose of an academic coordinator is to have a designated representative with academic expertise and good knowledge of the collaborations and actors involved who can handle some of the tasks and contacts required. As an Academic Coordinator, you will work in close collaboration with KI leadership and the International Relations Office (Professional Services) where the overall cooperation with Hong Kong takes place. You will report to the Chair of the International Board, who is also the Vice President of KI.

The role of Academic Coordinator involves

  • to promote KI's collaborations with priority universities and other organisations.
  • finding synergies between ongoing cooperation activities and keeping in touch with KI employees who are active in the region or have cooperation with relevant institutions or the equivalent.
  • to contribute to anchoring the cooperation within KI.
  • to participate in tasks that require academic competence and are related to collaborations in the relevant region. 
  • to contribute to increased mobility for students, PhD students and researchers between KI and Hong Kong. 

Who are you?

We are looking for you who have

  • previous experience of cooperation with Hong Kong/China.
  • employment at KI. 

Knowledge of Chinese is a merit. Great importance will be attached to personal suitability. Good communication skills are important for the assignment. An overall assessment of the applicants' merits will be made.

Scope of the assignment

For assignments as academic coordinator, remuneration is paid according to chapter 3 Remuneration to the department, level IK4A in the table in the Instructions for remuneration for special assignments:

Travel may occur. The assignment is valid from 2025-01-01 to 2025-12-31 with the possibility of extension.
