1-year Master´s programme in global health judged "high quality"
[NEWS 2012-06-29] Karolinska Institutet´s 1-year English-language Master´s programme in global health was judged by the National Agency for Higher Education to be of "high quality". The same rating was given to KI´s Bachelor´s programme in public health sciences, which, however, is being phased out and will therefore have no new intake of students.
In 2011, the National Agency for Higher Education launched a four-year quality-audit of all degree courses in Sweden. Today, 27 July, it published the results of its evaluation of public health study programmes. Of the 23 currently available, three received the highest rating (very high quality), while 13 were judged to be of high quality and 7 to be lacking in quality.
"We maintain a high level of quality but we´re constantly striving for improvements and will not be satisfied until we obtain the highest rating," says Tanja Tomson, programme director of public health sciences and global health at KI.
"We don´t only want to be best in Sweden in this field; we also want to measure up to the very best universities in the world."
To this end, Karolinska Institutet has launched new Maste´s study programmes in the subject that have yet to be audited: Public health epidemiology and Health economics policy and management.
The grade awarded by the agency is based mainly on the students´ degree papers and the extent to which they attain the objectives of the programme. Also considered are the universities self-assessments, group interviews with students about their experiences, and alumni surveys.
