DESCRIPTION:In conjunction with the World Congress of Psychiatry\, the World Psychiatric Association\, the Swedish Psychiatric Association\, the Association for the Improvement of Mental Health Programmes (AMH) and the National Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention of Mental Ill-Health (NASP) at Karolinska Institutet\, will organize a Course on Leadership and Professional Skills for Early Career Psychiatrists at the Karolinska Institutet Solna Campus in Stockholm.\r\n\r\nA three day course for early PsychiatristsThis course aims to enhance leadership competencies while supporting professional development and focuses on leadership training\, networking opportunities\, and the development of collaborative research projects.The course will take place on the premises of Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm from Sunday September 20th to Tuesday\, September 22\, immediately preceding the WPA Congress\, which begins in Stockholm on September 23. The course is limited to 16 participants and is free of charge.A combination of individual and group workThe programme combines short lectures with a strong emphasis on individual presentations and interactive group work\, enabling participants to reflect on\, refine\, and strengthen their leadership skills. In addition\, the course promotes the expansion of professional networks and actively encourages joint research initiatives among participants.\r\n\r\nThe course leadersTeaching is led by Professor Norman Sartorius (Association for the Improvement of Mental Health Programmes\, AMH) and Professor Graham Thornicroft (King’s College London).&amp\;nbsp\;Professor Norman Sartorius is an internationally renowned psychiatrist known for his leadership in global mental health. He trained in psychiatry and psychology and went on to serve as Director of the World Health Organization’s Division of Mental Health\, where he played a major role in shaping international mental health policy. He later became President of the World Psychiatric Association and European Psychiatric Association and has held academic and advisory positions worldwide. Professor Sartorius is widely recognized for his work on the classification of mental disorders\, mental health services\, educational work and the reduction of stigma associated with mental illness.&amp\;nbsp\;Professor Sir Graham Thornicroft is a leading British psychiatrist and global authority on mental health\, particularly known for his work on community mental health services and stigma reduction. He is Professor Emeritus of Community Mental Health at King’s College London and an Honorary Consultant psychiatrist at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.
