Biomedicum courses in work environment: Course in laboratory safety - Basic

You will learn practical and basic things regarding safety in the laboratory in Biomedicum. You will receive information about what services are offered for lab work in the house and what to do if you need help. You will receive information on how to handle chemicals in the lab, what risk assessments should be made, what protective equipment should be used and how to work with biosafety. Information regarding incidents and crises will be provided.

Content

The course is intended for everyone who is new to Biomedicum, but it is also good for you who feel insecure about safety routines in the lab. The course can also be good for you who have been in the lab longer and want to refresh your knowledge of lab safety.

Work environment training - Module 3: Laboratory Safety

This course is aimed for all research group leaders who has/will be given delegated work environment tasks in laboratory environment (or equivalent).

Content

Target group

All research group leaders who has/will be given delegated work environment tasks in laboratory environment (or equivalent) and sometime during the last five years has participated in Karolinska Institute organized leadership training program “Work environment issues related to manager responsibilities, Module 1: Systematic work environment management or "Basic work environment training /Grundläggande arbetsmiljöutbildning (2,5 day)" .

Aim

To provide basic knowledge about the responsibilities, legislation, policies and procedures related to laboratory safety, and to communicate a basic understanding of risk identification and risk management, and how a manager ensures good laboratory safety.

Content

Basic review of laws, procedures, guidelines and tools, risk assessments, permits, registration, notification, personal protection, emergency procedures, disposal and storage, mainly in the areas of biosafety and chemical safety.

The course will be held in English.

The training is mandatory for those with delegated work environment tasks.

MBSR is an eight-week evidence-based program to manage stress and increasing mental balance and well-being. For KI-employees.

Content

If you would like to develop the ability to cope more effectively with stressful situations and gain more composure, energy and understanding in your life, this course is for you. It can help to improve your focus, build resilience and give you insights into finding more ease in life. 

About the online program

The course will be delivered live through Canvas/Zoom. You will engage with the teacher and interact with other participants through your computer screen and web camera during weekly class sessions. Throughout the program you will be consciously and systematically working with the challenges and demands of your everyday life, in a safe and supportive environment.

You will be guided in meditation practices and mindful yoga and access recordings to practice with at home in-between sessions. There will be group dialogues as well as the opportunity for one-on-one check-ins with the instructor.
