During a one-week challenge Praveen Pillai and Stephen Townsend, two KI students, worked together with students from other schools to solve the case on how Pfizer and IBM could ensure a successful COVID-19 vaccine distribution – and their solution ended up winning the challenge!

Isidora Vera Valencia, a student at the Occupational Therapy Programme at KI, has been awarded "Occupational Therapy Student of the Year 2020" by the Swedish Association of Occupational Therapists.

On 17 March 2020, the Public Health Agency of Sweden encourages Swedish universities and upper-secondary schools to conduct distance learning in order to reduce the spread of COVID-19. The campus closes on 18 March, but teaching must continue. For KI’s teachers, it’s the start of an intensive undertaking, one that proved particularly challenging for the Unit for Teaching and Learning.

During a digital ceremony last Thursday, May 28, 19 international students in Sweden received the Global Swede award. One of them is KI Health Informatics student Winner Ng!

In order for students to continue their education, Karolinska Institutet (KI) has decided to make it possible to, during the summer, provide courses and activities that due to the prevailing pandemic could not be completed during the spring term.

In order to simplify planning for both teachers and students, the Committee for Higher Education has decided that teaching at the basic and advanced levels will take place via distance for the remainder of the spring term.

The president of Karolinska Institutet, Professor Ole Petter Ottersen, has established a team of experts for Covid-19 comprising eight of the university’s researchers with expertise in a range of fields related to the spread of infection. One of them is doctoral students Hedvig Glans, assistant consultant and head of inpatient care at Karolinska University Hospital’s infection clinic in Huddinge.

Karolinska Institutet’s Centre for Research on Health Care in Disasters has been tasked by the National Board of Health and Welfare to arrange an education, training and practice package (e.g. on the handling of personal protective equipment) for medical personnel in connection with the Covid-19 outbreak.

For some time now, various text messages have been circulated with an invitation to send an e-mail to an e-mail address that includes the words “karolinskainstituten” or “karolinska”. The invitation is justified by the claim that the sender can provide “important info for you about Coronavirus”. These text messages are fake and should not be answered! Karolinska Institutet is not the sender of these text messages.

KI Pick up service is now looking for more student representatives who want to work with picking up incoming exchange students from City Terminal (T-Centralen) and escorting them to their accommodation.

Nearly 90 students participated in this year's edition of the EIT Health Innovation Day, which was held at the Karolinska Institutet on November 15. The task was to develop a product that solves a problem for a patient with multiple sclerosis.

The company "Care to translate", founded and developed by KI students, was named Social Entrepreneur of the Year in the Business Challenge 2019.

Two recently graduated students from KI’s Global Master’s Programme in Nutrition Science were among the top 3 teams competing in the Baltic Sea Young Planner’s Contest in Poland. One of them was in the winning team.

Expectation was in the air when the international students were welcomed to KI last week. The program included an intensive course in Swedish, workshops in cultural competence and of course "fika".

The Amgen Scholars Program at KI is a summer research program for European undergraduate students at Karolinska Institutet (KI) funded by the Amgen Foundation.

The integration of the UN’s Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goals into higher education and the importance of engaging students in the process were in focus at the recent conference, “Rethinking Higher Education: Inspired by the Sustainable Development Goals”.
