The Swedish Society of Medicine awards Professor Jesper Lagergren at Karolinska Institutet with the Reuterskiöld Prize, for world-leading research focusing on the causes, prevention and treatment of esophageal and gastric cancer.

Petter Brodin, professor at Karolinska Institutet, is awarded the Oscar Medin's prize 2023 by the Swedish Medical Association (SLS) for his outstanding research efforts in Paediatrics.

Professor Lars Olson is awarded the Arvid Carlsson Foundation’s major prize for outstanding research 2023. In addition, Professor Sophie Erhardt and Adjunct Professor Johan Lundberg are both awarded grants from the foundation.

The Prize (USD 5.000) is meant to reward pre-graduate scientific contributions within the doctoral education. The candidate should not have reached the age of 32 years at the time he/she is nominated to the prize. The prize will be awarded at the Installation Ceremony of Karolinska Institutet

Post-doctoral fellow Amos Tuval at the Department of Oncology-Pathology has been selected by the American Society of Hematology (ASH) to receive the 2023 ASH Global Research Award. Amos is one of 12 talented early-career investigators selected for this honor.

Katie Healy at the Department of Dental Medicine and Sebastian Ols at the Department of Medicine in Solna, receive the Sven Gard's scholarship 2023. Sven Gard's scholarship is awarded annually for the best dissertation in virology. The scholarship takes place as a result of nomination.

KI Professor Maria Bradley is awarded the Medicine Doctor Axel Hirsch prize 2023 for her breadth of research and for her remarkable efforts in the field of atopic eczema.

Karolinska Institutet has been awarded a new EU prize for its long-term commitment to gender equality in higher education. The prize of 100,000 euro is the result of nearly 40 years of sustained activity to advance equal opportunities. The efforts have paid off and now KI is recognized as a role model for equality, a “Gender Equality Champion.”

Jenny Mjösberg, Professor of Tissue Immunology at Karolinska Institutet, is one of five researchers to be awarded the Göran Gustafsson Prize this year. The prize is intended for young researchers in medicine, molecular biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics and is awarded by the Göran Gustafsson Foundations in collaboration with the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

The Board of Sven and Ebba-Christina Hagberg's foundation has decided to award Cristiana Cruceanu and Hugo Zeberg the foundations personal prize and a research grant, for a total of SEK 650,000 each. The prize will be awarded at the annual Installation Ceremony at the Karolinska Institutet in October 2023.

Four researchers at Karolinska Institutet (KI) are awarded the Silver Medal this year. This medal is awarded to individuals who have made excellent efforts in support of KI’s activities, and these people will be recognised in conjunction with the ceremony for Diligence and Devotion in February 2023.

The four researchers awarded the Silver Medal award are Göran Dahllöf, Lena Borell, Marianne Schultzberg and Rolf Kiessling.

On November 9, 2022, the Committee for Research at Karolinska Institutet decided on the allocation of funding for positions as Assistant Professor, Senior Research Specialist/Principal Researcher and Consolidator grants for researchers already employed by KI. One researcher at the Department of Biosciences and Nutrition received funding as Senior Research Specialist.

The Committee for Research at Karolinska Institutet has decided on recipients from the Jonas Söderquist scholarship foundation for basic research in virology and immunology 2022. Quirin Hammer at the Department of Medicine, Huddinge (MedH) and Daniel Sheward at the Department of Microbiology, Tumor- and Cell Biology (MTC)) are awarded.

This year's Special Award goes to Torkel Klingberg, who receives SEK 50,000. The prize aims to celebrate the educational writers behind teaching materials and course literature, and to highlight the important role they play when it comes to education in Sweden.

Professor Fredrik Ullén has been awarded the KI Culture Prize 2022. The prize was awarded during KI's Culture Day on 19 October.

Professor Kevin Eva of the University of British Columbia, Canada, is this year’s winner of the Karolinska Institutet Prize in Medical Education. He received his accolade in KI’s Aula Medica in conjunction with the university’s installation ceremony on 13 October. Among its many consequences, his research has helped to improve the admission processes at medical universities.

During the Annual pediatric IBD meeting in Örebro on September 29-30, Jonas F Ludvigsson received this year’s honorary award "the Gut Feeling" SPGHN, the Swedish Association for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, amidst the cheers of the audience. The prize is awarded after voting by pediatricians in Sweden.

The Hans Wigzell Research Foundation (Hans Wigzells Forskningsstiftelse) awards its annual scientific prize to Professor Gonçalo Castelo-Branco. He receives the prize of SEK 925,000 for his important research around oligodendrocytes – a cell type which plays important roles in relation to how the human brain develops and functions.

Magnus Ingelman-Sundberg at the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology is awarded with the R.T. Williams Distinguished Scientific Achievement Award 2022. In recognition of his outstanding scientific contributions in the field of drug research.

Prof. Kevin Eva is awarded the 2022 Karolinska Institutet Prize for Research in Medical Education (KIPRIME). Prof. Eva is Associate Director and Senior Scientist in the Centre for Health Education Scholarship, and Professor and Director of Educational Research and Scholarship in the Department of Medicine, at the University of British Columbia. He is also Editor-in-Chief of the journal Medical Education.

The Alzheimer's Association® will present seven awards at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference® (AAIC®) 2022, recognizing researchers for their varied expertise, noteworthy achievements and innovative contributions to the field of Alzheimer's and dementia science. Agneta Nordberg, Division of Clinical Geriatrics, received one of them.

Eivind Gottlieb at the Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery is awarded the prize for his thesis "Improved surgical treatment of oesophageal cancer"

The Board of Sven and Ebba-Christina Hagberg's foundation has decided to award Elizabeth Arkema and Marcus Buggert the foundations personal prize and a research grant, for a total of SEK 470,000 each. The prize will be awarded at the annual Installation Ceremony at the Karolinska Institutet in October 2021.

Associate Professor Tobias Nordström is awarded the European Association of Urology (EAU) "Prostate Cancer Research Award 2022" for the Stockholm3-test, a blood test that in a better way can identify men who have an increased risk for prostate cancer.

Christina Opava, professor emerita at the Division of Physiotherapy is awarded the EULAR Health Professionals in Rheumatology Lifetime Achievement Award 2022 for her work within rheumatology.

Katja Petzold has been awarded the Hugo Theorell Prize in biophysics 2022. The focus in her lab is to study structural changes in RNA – e.g. the RNA in the ribosome – and to develop methods for this purpose.

Researchers behind the science of how we move have been recognized with the The Brain Prize 2022. Ole Kiehn, from the Department of Neuroscience at Karolinska Institutet and at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, is one of three neuroscientists receiving the world's largest prize for brain research, awarded on a yearly basis by the Lundbeck Foundation.

Caroline Ran, researcher at the Department of Neurosicence, has been awarded the Harold Wolff-John Graham Award in recognition of her outstanding achievements in headache research. The award, sponsored by the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), amounts to 1000 USD, plus 200 USD in subsistence allowance to speak at AAN's annual meeting in April 2022.

The research committee at the Swedish Cancer Society has just named Henrik Grönberg “Cancer Researcher of the Year 2022” for his efforts in prostate cancer research. Henrik Grönberg’s research has contributed to earlier detection of prostate cancer and that unnecessary examinations can be avoided.

Professor Carol Tishelman at the Department of learning, informatics, management and ethics and her research group have been awarded the KI Culture Award 2021 for the research project DöBra.

The Breast Cancer Association's award 2021 goes to chief physician and KI professor Per Hall. He is recognized for his broad research on how breast cancer can be prevented and detected early with refined and individual methods.

Researcher and KI alumnus Ahmadreza Djalali has been awarded the 2021 Courage to Think Award, from Scholars at Risk (SAR).

One of three finalists, Ulrica Nilsson, professor of nursing at NVS, wins the prize for RAPP – an app for digital integrated people-centered care.

Stina Nordinge och Caroline Lager have been named Occupational Therapy Students of the Year by the Swedish Association of Occupational Therapists. They have shown that new digital technology using virtual reality does not have to be complicated. By removing the concept of time and space, it is possible to focus on the part of the individual that is well and strengthen that part.

The 2021 Melvin R. Goodes Prize was awarded to Professor Kivipelto, who received the prize at the ADDF Annual Fall Symposium on Thursday, October 28th.

Dr Nicolas Pejovic has been awarded this year’s Rolf Zetterstöm prize for best thesis in pediatrics. The award was presented at Karolinska Institutet during Barnveckan. In his doctoral thesis No cry at birth. Neaonatal resuscitation in low resource setting: role of the laryngeal mask airway, Dr Pejovic investigates how midwives in low-resource settings could safely resuscitate newborns more effectively using a laryngeal mask instead of a conventional facemask.
