Title: Mental health and social media, 10.30 – 12.00

Keynote speaker: Janis Whitlock

The digital age has ushered forms of social interaction and knowledge acquisition unlike anything known in recorded human history. The need to deepen understanding and to assist communities in navigating the role that social media is playing in adolescent and  young adult mental health is of critical importance. Professor Whitlock will in this lecture focus on summarizing what we do and do not know about how social media is impacting development and wellbeing and will engage participants in a discussion of implications and next steps for advancing research and intervention.

Title: Treatment of NSSI - family therapy, 13.00 – 14.30

Keynote speaker: Imke Baetens

Although most of evidence-based treatments for NSSI are mainly individual-focused, systems-based approaches are gradually gaining more attention due to the strong association between NSSI and interpersonal factors. Treatment protocols with a strong family component appear to be particularly effective in addressing NSSI. Professor Baetens will present an overview of existing family treatment protocols suitable for the treatment of NSSI, and will highlight some of the key elements for family therapeutic approaches.
