This course is for employees in a managerial/leadership role who will be conducting salary setting discussions. Through the course you will get information about wage formation and knowledge about how to conduct the performance management dialog. The course also includes a practical part where you get to practice the dialog with our fantastic actors.

The leadership course is a half day course that includes a theoretical part centered around Karolinska Institutes salary setting process and a practical part where the participants train with actors in small groups. There are 2 training courses during the fall of 2022 (1 in Swedish and 1 in English) and is useful for managers who will be setting the salaries through dialog directly with employees or through negotiations with the trade union. These 2 occasions are seperate and has the same content.

  • 13th September 2022, kl. 12:30 – 16:30 (in Swedish, digital)
  • 22nd of September 2022, kl. 08:30 – 12:30 (in English, digital)

The purpose of the course is to gain a better understanding of the salary setting process and how the performance management dialog is conducted at Karolinska Institutet as well as increase your ability to carry it out.

Target group:

The course is for employees in a managerial/leadership role, both for research/education- and technical/administration staff, who will be conducting salary setting discussions.

Interactive theatre is an enjoyable and focused work method where the participants train the kind of discussion situations that managers have to face ahead of the annual salary setting discussions with their employees.

Course structure:

The course begins with an introductory and theoretical part centred around Karolinska Institutet’s salary setting guidelines. This is followed by training with actors in small groups where the actors play the parts of employees in different salary discussion situations (cases). Please note that it is important to participate in both parts.

During the theoretical part we will go through the criteria for salary setting and the collective agreement that regulates the salary setting at Karolinska. You will also learn more about success factors and difficulties while conducting the management performance dialog.

During the practical part, you are divided into groups of three where one person gets to practice dialog, one person observes, and one person keeps track of time. The observers among the participants learn by watching and experiencing the dynamics of the discussion, what works and what does not work. Watching a discussion as a performance clarifies and generates insights that would otherwise be lost. The observers are asked to formulate their experiences and put into words the chain of events that unfold during each discussion. The ‘manager’ in the exercise is asked to reflect on and put his/her experience into words. The actors give their feedback on the discussion: how they experienced it, what opened it up, what brought it to a standstill, etc.

The course is executed and arranged by the Human Resources Office at Karolinska Institutet in cooperation with Solvere. Solvere is a training company that uses interactive methods oriented towards communication and interaction between people. Solvere provides customised performances/concepts in a range of themes.

An Outlook invitation with Zoom link will be sent closer upon the event but make sure to note the date and time in your calendar.
