Other Clean water – healthy future
KI’s Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) welcomes you to seminar on fresh water, which you can attend in person or online.
Clean drinking water is taken for granted in Sweden; indeed, we rarely think about the fact that we can drink fresh, healthy water straight from the tap without getting sick.
But new challenges are now facing us. The effects of climate change in the form of drought and flooding, and of pollutants leaching from the bedrock, industries, consumer products and medicines are threatening the quality and availability of drinking water. In much of the world, the lack of water is already a serious problem. Humans can live for weeks without food, but only a few days without water.
The issue of clean water is therefore more pressing than ever. At this seminar, we’ll be presenting opportunities, challenges and the latest research from an environmental medicine perspective focusing on health, climate and environment.

Water, health and the Nobel Prize
Every year during the Nobel Calling week, tribute is paid to the value of science to humanity and its world-changing potential. Many Nobel prizes have touched in their various ways on human health, the environment and the building blocks of life. Clean water is one such building block – a resource that is as self-evident as it is life-essential. Clean drinking water is one of the most basic conditions of life and health.
Nobel Calling Stockholm
The announcement of the year’s new Nobel laureates turns the world’s attention onto Stockholm. To mark the occasion, the Nobel Prize Museum is teaming up with KI and other institutions to turn the city into a hub of science, research and technology under the name Nobel Calling.
